A time to have a baby
                            by Alison James

My husband, Stephen and I decided about 6 years ago it was time to start a
family. We had left it a bit late (I was 38) but were sure that due to an active and
healthy lifestyle we would have no problems conceiving. However this was
not to be and the journey to conception was to prove to be a long and difficult one.

After a process of medical investigations, de-toxing our lives, 2 failed IVF attempts
and painful investigations into adoption, I came across an article on Gerad Kite.
I decided to give him a call to find out more, and was impressed from that first
conversation on the phone by the real interest shown in my situation and felt he
really listened to my dilemma over what my next step should be. At no time did he
put pressure on me to come and see him or to start acupuncture.

I first decided to see him in April 2005. After an initial consultation he started
treating me about once a month. Each session would leave me feeling great -
light, full of energy and in a very positive frame of mind. During our sessions we
would discuss my lifestyle and future desires. However, even though I felt good
after each session, I would continue my work life as an international marketing consultant, travelling long distance regularly. I believed I was managing my
stress levels and even though I knew my work/life balance was not quite right, my
life was exciting and I was achieving a great deal in my work and also travelling to
great destinations on holiday.

After about a year of treatment with Gerad, I started to think about all the
money I had spent on the acupuncture and felt a bit down about the fact that
although I now knew my cycle very well and we were having sex at the right times,
I couldn’t help but feel very disappointed that I was still not pregnant. I started to
think that maybe the money would have been better spent on another IVF attempt.
So it was in this mood I arrived for my treatment with Gerad. We sat together for
our usual chat about how things had been going and I couldn’t disguise my
disappointment, in fact I was angry. I laid my cards on the table and told Gerad how
I was feeling, I guess you could say we had a bit of a confrontation, both being
very strong willed. Gerad was not about to give up and he told me straight what I
needed to do, not mincing his words! This is one of the many things I value about
Gerad, he doesn’t tell you what you would like to hear, but what you need to hear.
This straight talking really hit home. After this session, I really started to think
about my life with open eyes, evaluating my achievements and how they were
making me feel – at the end of the day, unfulfilled. I believe this was the turning
point in my treatment and responded much better to all subsequent sessions.
I decided as I was walking down the street after a session that if I could always feel
this good, it actually wouldn’t matter if I didn’t get pregnant. I would continue
having treatment just to maintain my balance and my good energies.

A few months later I decided to take a 5 week break from work and went to college
to study Holistic Massage Therapy. I found it incredibly stimulating and rewarding to
use my brain in a new way and to do something so completely different to my
work life. It was hard work and I had to be committed to studying hours that I would
normally enjoy as free time, but that just didn’t seem to matter. Everyone I met
commented on how well I looked. It was during this happy time that our baby was
conceived. We are expecting him/her to join our world at the beginning of April and
can’t wait.

It has been a long and sometimes painful journey, but looking back I think our
success was due to 3 things.

1. The Acupuncture treatment itself – there is no doubt about the physical and
mental affects that are felt after a treatment – it continues to amaze me.

2. The practitioner – it is important to have a connection with your
practitioner, to have a feeling of mutual trust, to be open and talk about things
that you would probably not be able to talk to anyone else about. If you don’t
feel the connection try different practitioners until you find the one you
are comfortable with. I truly believe this is an integral part of the process.

3. Activation – you can have all the treatment in the world, talk about the
issues forever, but until you act on them and change something in your life, you
will be stuck in your hole!

So against all odds, or so I thought, I am now considered a successful case, which
I believe is due to being stubbornly determined, both myself and Gerad.

Thank you for not giving up on me.

We hope you found this article useful and inspiring.
